Sweet Banana Fritters

Ripe sweet bananas mixed with flour, milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg make a special brunch or dessert treat. Banana Fritters is the classic Jamaican breakfast and we use and easy way to use all those bananas growing in the yard. In America, fritters are a great appetizer and these are satisfying and easy to make. 

Whip them up for breakfast, brunch with your friends or dress them up and serve them at your next party. Try these with our delicious pineapple compote and add your own assortment of fresh fruit. We promise your guest will love them.

Sweet Banana Spice Fritters
A classic Jamaican recipe with a twist.
  • 3 Bananas
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Non- sweet Almond Milk
  • 2 cup Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Eggs
  • Powdered Sugar
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
Cover bottom of pan or use deep fryer to heat up 2 - 3 cups of oil. Keep oil on medium heat.Mash bananas in a bowl until they are creamy.Combine flour, baking powder, sugar cinnamon and nutmeg.Add bananas, eggs, vanilla extract and milk. Stir until the batter is a thick pancake batter consistently. If batter is too thick add more milk. Let batter rest for 10 - 15 minutesScoop spoonfuls of batter into oil and fry. Watch closely and turn fritters once they become golden brown. Pat fritters to rid of excess oil and let cool. Then sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Apple Spice Pineapple Compote
A wonderfully fresh dipping sauce for your fritters.
  • 2 cups Fresh Pineapple Cubed
  • 3/4 cup Pineapple Juice
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Tbs Cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1 Tsp Apple Spice
On medium heat, combine chunks, sugar and juice. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Cook 5 minutes until chunks begin to soften. In a separate bowl combine cornstarch and water, wisk until thoroughly combined. Add cornstarch to mixture and bring it to a simmer. Add apple spice, stir and bring to a simmer. Cook until liquid is thickened. Turn off heat and transfer to a bowl to cool.
